COVID-19 Update – August 24, 2021

  • West Court/Care Home: We are relieved and pleased to announce the COVID-19 outbreak at the Parkview Neighborhood of KinVillage’s West Court (Care Home) was officially declared over by Fraser Health’s Medical Health Officer today, August 24.

The outbreak at Parkview was declared on August 7, 2021.   A total of 2 residents and 1 staff member tested positive for COVID- 19. They have all fully recovered since. We are grateful that the outbreak was well-contained, that no new cases were identified during the monitoring period, and is now over.    This was possible due to the very good vaccination rates for both residents and staff, and to the contributions of all involved – the collaborative efforts of our staff, the cooperation of our residents, the understanding of families, and the support of Fraser Health.

  • Masks in Public Places – Adrian Dix, B.C.’s Minister of Health and Dr Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer have reinstated the mask requirement in public indoor places effective Wednesday August 25. Examples of indoor public places include:  grocery stores, restaurants/pubs, public transit, community centers, and lounges in apartments.   The MOH and PHO stated this is an additional layer being put in place as we transition through fall and the risk of transmission has been occurring primarily in indoor social settings.

  • We are pleased that Dr. Henry, B.C.’s Public Health Officer, recently issued an Order that will require people using/attending discretionary indoor social events to be vaccinated.  Proof of vaccination will be required to access some events, services and businesses. Starting September 13, you must have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. By October 24, you must be fully vaccinated. The requirements of this new Order will be reflected in KinVillage’s plan for a gradual re-opening of its Community Centre in mid-September.
