FOR RESIDENTS OF KINVILLAGE

Residents living in our very affordable, independent apartments can take advantage of living within the supportive KinVillage environment. Each building is secured and each apartment has a private patio or balcony with views of our well kept grounds and some with views of the neighbouring park. Many volunteers work to provide beautiful spaces by planting and maintaining common areas throughout the KinVillage community.

Residents have the opportunity to get involved through the Community Centre where they can connect with others from the greater South Delta community and participate in a range of fitness options, education (ElderCollege, art classes or health meetings), games (cards, snooker etc.) or events such as the annual Book Fair or Fashion Show. There are regular movies, dances and concerts that appeal to a range of tastes.

Outside of what is available through the Community Centre, there are celebrations just for the residents at KinVillage, such as a Christmas Dinner and Summer barbeques. Lounges in each building provide a place for informal gatherings and conversations amongst residents. A weekly Bible Study is hosted on-site by South Delta Baptist Church and residents who wish to attend their Sunday Church service may travel to it on the KinVillage bus. We invite residents to get involved as volunteers with KinVillage. It’s a fantastic way to be involved, help others and realize a sense of accomplishment. Many have benefited from the experience.

Independent Living

No matter where one lives within the KinVillage community, various opportunities are available to facilitate wellbeing. All residents receive a free membership to the KinVillage Community Centre. Many people try new things – sometimes uncovering hidden talents. There are gardens, patios and lounges throughout KinVillage so residents can connect with the outdoors or with others in a safe and friendly environment. And there are plenty of avenues to contribute and help others, by either volunteering at KinVillage or by simply offering a helping hand to a neighbour.

Senior Supportive Housing

Whatever it Wellness of residents in our supportive housing program is also supported by affordable rents in an attractive, well-maintained and well-located apartment building. In addition, increased feelings of security and connection are encouraged through the 24 hour Lifeline system, regular housekeeping, and a daily meal enjoyed together with other residents.

The onsite senior-focused Community Centre truly offers something for everyone. It really is the perfect place to stay involved in community – from volunteer opportunities to learning a new skill.  Some additional recreational programs are offered to residents in this program within the building as well as occasional bus outings into the community, for example to go shopping.

Assisted Living

A wonderful combination of autonomy with support, affordable Assisted Living in KinVillage’s pleasant South Court apartment building provides some health and personal care, regular meals with other residents in the dining room, and light housekeeping to those needing a little more help with daily living. The 24 hour on-site staffing, combined with the emergency response system, enhances the sense of security for residents.

The Community Centre and the many activities offered there are also available to those in Assisted Living. However, many of our residents prefer to take part in the recreational programs offered in South Court. These activities are specifically designed for seniors to help keep them involved and active physically, mentally and socially.

Long-Term Care Home

Residents of West Court may require the most assistance from staff to achieve an optimal level of wellness, but it is our goal to help each individual live as fully as possible. They (and their families) can expect that their autonomy will be respected, their dignity maintained and, increasingly over time, their uniqueness understood and appreciated as staff provide person-centered care and relationships flourish. Staff members recognize that KinVillage is the resident’s home and they are working within it; and as they do, they become part of the resident’s extended KinVillage family. The respectful and nurturing care available here provides emotional support and encouragement for residents to get involved in the many daily activities.

There are opportunities for personal growth with onsite church services, art classes and music therapy. There are options 7 days a week for physical and intellectual stimulation through, for example, fitness offerings, strength training, physical therapy, mind aerobics, daily news readings/discussions, and sing-a-longs. While West Court provides a vibrant home environment for residents, there is direct access to the attached Community Centre to enjoy a light meal, snack or coffee/tea at the cafe and a used clothing boutique for affordable and high quality items. Many residents enjoy visiting the Community Centre with the help of a family member or friend, volunteer or staff member.

Residents receive essential medical service and health care, including sensitive end of life care that is integral to feeling well at this stage of life. With 24 hour care from nurses and care aides, equipment that can help residents move, a call system and a secure building, residents and families can feel safe and supported. Personal care, including bathing, hair dressing and foot care, as well as nutritious meals and snacks, are also provided. Staff trained in “Gentle Care” understand and use the best approaches for interacting with residents who have dementia so that these residents also feel secure and supported.

Family involvement is strongly encouraged and supported here, as these connections, along with other residents, volunteers and staff can really contribute to well-being. As with any home, family and friends are invited to celebrate special occasions here.
