COVID-19 Update – October 13, 2021

The Provincial Health Officer and the Ministry of Health announced updated requirements for visitation in long-term care and seniors’ assisted living facilities.

Effective October 26, 2021 (instead of November 30, 2021 as originally communicated by the PHO/MOH):

  • Visitors must demonstrate they are fully vaccinated to enter South and West Courts (excluding children under 12 years or those with an approved medical exemption)

Exceptions related to compassionate care such as end-of-life care, will be considered on an individual case basis with additional preventative measures required to support visits involving partially or unvaccinated individuals.

If you have not obtained your vaccine passport yet but are fully vaccinated, your vaccination card will be accepted for now and ask that you register for your vaccine passport as soon as possible.

1 Full vaccination/immunization for COVID-19 is considered as seven days after receiving the full series of approved COVID-19 vaccine or a combination of approved vaccines.

The City of Delta held a Public Hearing on Thursday, September 9 2021 for the KinVillage North Court Redevelopment (NCRD) project. The NCRD is the first phase of a master plan that has been in the works since 2016 and has received preliminary approvals for funding through Building BC: Community Housing Fund with BC Housing.

The proposal discussed at this Public Hearing was for the Application for Rezoning, Development Variance Permit and Development Permit in order to permit subdivision and development of a 152 unit, four- to six-storey seniors’ affordable rental apartment building with one level of underground parking. The rental building includes three rent classifications: rent-geared-to-income units (50 percent of units), affordable market rentals (30 percent of units), and deep subsidy rentals (20 percent of units) with indoor amenity spaces, common balcony spaces and laundry rooms on each floor. The building will also include a 5000 sq ft space for a day program for older adults, as well as a 1000 sq ft office area.

Now that the project has received 3rd reading from Council, detailed design work can commence in advance of a building permit application. The project also requires a number of approvals from BC Housing related to the design and project budget before construction can begin.

Kin Village looks forward to continue working towards the construction of the new housing complex.

KinVillage’s Future Takes Shape

You may recall that in November KinVillage hosted some information sessions to share initial thoughts on how KinVillage’s site may evolve in the years ahead.

A total of 84 people participated – 17 from the general public, 16 KinVillage residents, 10 staff, and 41 volunteers and/or members.

Feedback received was mostly positive. The main themes identified include:
• Support for the Master Plan, and expanded height and density, provided it remains a place for non-market seniors’ housing.
• A need for an on-site gathering space for both the public and residents.
• The need to accommodate all future parking needs.
• Retaining and expanding green space.

As a result of this feedback, the draft Master Plan shared at the information sessions was slightly revised. On January 24th, KinVillage’s Board of Directors approved the final Master Plan.

Being responsive to changing community needs and replacing aging buildings is a long and complex journey for KinVillage.

Redevelopment of the KinVillage site is anticipated to take 20 years plus, with the first phase of construction (on the North Court lot) commencing at earliest in 2020. Actual timing will be highly dependent on government support. In order for KinVillage to be successful in securing such support, it’s essential that we have a viable plan ready.

We now have a Master Plan – we’ve taken the first critical step!
