Managing KinVillage

Overseeing management and the associated wide web of people, places and things it takes to deliver KinVillage’s mission is the responsibility of the administrative group. This is a dedicated team that strives to provide high quality services in a fiscally responsible manner and within a warm and caring environment.


This leadership team provides wise leadership in managing the operations of KinVillage. Donna Ellis, the CEO, and the Directors lead by example, living KinVillage’s values and expecting, enabling and encouraging all staff to do the same.  This team nurtures a sense of community and never loses sight of the KinVillage’s purpose – to deliver exceptional service and to support those served by KinVillage to live their lives fully.

Chief Executive Officer

With close to 30 years of progressive management and volunteer experience in community health care, hospitals, regional health authorities, government and not-for profit agencies, Donna has focused largely on services and supports particularly relevant to an aging population. Following leadership positions at Providence Health Care, the Canadian Cancer Society and Vancouver Coastal Health, she was delighted to join KinVillage as its CEO in 2010.

Carol Howard

Director of Housing

Carol has extensive knowledge in the field of community health care, developed through 25 years working and leading in organizations that serve those with disabilities, children and older adults. While much of Carol’s early career in England focused on the provision of government social services management, with her move to Canada came an opportunity to work in the not-for-profit sector. Carol joined KinVillage in 2011 after working as the Continuum of Living Manager with LutherCare Communities in Saskatchewan.

Cynthia Langenberg

Director of Health Services

Cynthia has worked in health care for over 30 years; the last 20 of these supporting older adults. In her various clinical, educational and leadership roles, she has helped to develop, coordinate and implement services that enhance clients’ quality of life. Prior to joining KinVIllage, Cynthia worked to provide high quality, person-centred care as the Director of Care at Delta Home Support.

Nadine Brown

Director of Care

After graduating from the University of Manitoba with her Degree in Nursing, Nadine moved to Vancouver to find better weather!  Nadine worked in a variety of clinical areas prior to joining KinVillage in 2003.   After joining KinVillage as a Staff RN, Nadine subsequently progressed through a range of leadership roles including Clinical Practice Leader, Acting Director of Health Services and now KinVillage’s Director of Care.  Nadine discovered her passion working with seniors when she came to KinVillage.  She strives to create a warm and positive home for residents and to provide resident centered care with dignity and compassion.

Bettina Salini

Director of Wellness

Bettina has been contributing at KinVillage since 2000, initially as a member of the recreation team in our care home, then as its Manager of Recreation, and now as the Director of Wellness.   She is responsible for planning, coordination and oversight of wellness programming across KinVillage, including all residential areas and the Community Centre, as well as overseeing volunteer engagement.  Bettina has consistently displayed dedication to KinVillage’s Mission, is deeply committed to providing person-centred care, and is passionate about supporting wellness for the diverse and ever-changing needs of those we serve.

Mary Jo McLeod

Director of Finance

With a range of experience in financial management and reporting and in systems management, Mary Jo has held leadership positions in not-for-profit agencies, banking and industry.  She has a special interest in seniors and community support and her experience in the non-profit sector includes previous roles with Elim Village Seniors Community and with DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society.  Prior to joining KinVillage in June 2016, Mary Jo was the Managing Director and Interim Executive Director with the Surrey Hospice Society.

Sue Satterthwaite

Communications and Executive Assistant

Sue brings over 25 years of professional office administration experience including communications functions.  She has worked for a variety of organizations, including in the financial, legal, real estate, retail sectors and senior residential living.  Her enjoyment of the latter, supporting another organization that provides care, support and housing for seniors, motivated her to join KinVillage. She is delighted to be working here, for an organization she has long admired, in the community in which she was raised and lives.

April Matwiv

Manager of Support Services, Marquise

April is an adventurous soul who has traveled extensively, including training as a Pastry Chef in Switzerland. While her interests and experiences have taken her to many places, and to work with a variety of organizations such as Nanaimo Seniors Village, April’s discovered that she really enjoys working with seniors, being part of great teams, tackling challenges and having fun!
